One Book, One Community Events Coming Soon: Are you Ready?

One Book/One Community is a community initiative that encourages everyone to celebrate reading through conversations and events related to one book. Be part of One Book/One Community 2017 this March as we read and discuss: All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

Throughout the month of March, participating libraries will host a multitude of events. Please visit our homepage to access Hubbard Public Library's calendar of events. A complete listing will be available on our website soon.

This selection transports readers to WWII Europe and interweaves the stories of two young protagonists through detailed and engaging storytelling.

Marie Laure goes blind when she is 6, and her father builds her a model of their Paris neighborhood so she can memorize it with her fingers and navigate the real streets with her feet and cane.  When the Germans occupy Paris, father and daughter flee to Saint-Malo on the Brittany Coast.

In Germany, an orphan boy, Werner, grows up with his younger sister, both enchanted by a radio Werner finds. He becomes a master at building and fixing radios, a talent that wins him a place at an elite and brutal military academy and, ultimately, makes him a specialized tracker of the resistance. Werner travels through the hear of Hitler Youth to the outskirts of Russia and finally into Saint-Malo, where his path converges with Marie-Laure.

All the Light We Cannot See is a winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction,  the 2015 Carnegie medal for Excellence in Fiction, and the 2015 Ohioanna Library Association Book Award for Fition.
